Changpeng Zhao, head of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange, commented at the Consensus 2022 conference about the information on the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation into the BNB token. Coindesk writes about it.
He noted that the company “occurs from time to time” receives various inquiries from regulators, including the SEC, and is in constant contact with authorities.
According to him, the SEC asked questions about BNB, but the exchange did not receive an official subpoena. Zhao expressed his confidence that the token is not a security.
Recall that the media citing sources reported that the SEC was investigating whether the BNB token was a security at the time of the sale in 2017.
In 2021, it was also reported that there was an investigation into Binance’s work by another US regulator, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The company then said that the department is trying to understand the rapidly growing cryptocurrency industry.
