New Zealand authorities have included bitcoin exchange Huobi on its register of financial service providers.

“This represents our first step towards expanding the cryptocurrency trading business in the country,” the company said.

According to CoinDesk, after registration, Huobi will be able to offer its services in New Zealand.

The exchange also announced that it has acquired a so-called “innovation license” in Dubai. It targets startups, entrepreneurs and technology firms to support innovation and business scaling.

In November 2021, Huobi chose Singapore as its headquarters location. That same month, a subsidiary of the company received a license from the Gibraltar regulator to initiate spot trading.

Prior to that, the exchange stopped registering new users in mainland China after another wave of pressure in the cryptocurrency industry. According to media reports, Huobi took this decision before the tightening of regulation in China.

In February 2022, the exchange announced that it was returning to the US market after a two-year hiatus.

In June, operator Huobi announced that it would close a division in Thailand after the license was revoked by the Ministry of Finance.

Recall that in March Binance received a license to provide cryptocurrency services in Dubai.

The UAE has granted a similar permit to the FTX bitcoin exchange.
