The Harmony protocol team has offered a $1 million reward for recovering $100 million worth of crypto assets stolen from the Horizon cross-chain bridge or information that led to hackers.

“Harmony will not plead any charges once the funds are returned,” the developers said.

Users in the comments noted a small amount of the reward – 1% of the value of the stolen funds. On Twitter, a popular crypto trader with the alias Degen Spartan described the offer as “a humiliating amount”.

“I think these guys are just performing a performance to mitigate legal liability: “Hey, look, don’t blame us, at least we tried.” It seems like they don’t even want to return the money with such a clown offer,” he said.

Useless CEO David Wiley suggested that crackers might prefer “a million clean cash.” But he sees Harmony’s proposal as the “starting point” in negotiations and the amount of compromise in the $3-6 million range.

one of the commentators remindedThe industry standard for such return conditions is 10% of the amount.

In May, an unidentified person withdrew nearly $80 million worth of assets from the Rari Capital protocol, and the team offered $10 million to return the funds.

In April, Beanstalk Farms’ DeFi protocol lost $181 million in a hack. The hacker’s hunt was about $76 million in assets. The developers agreed to return 90% of the funds and leave 10% as a legal reward.

Harmony CEO Steven Tse explained that the interception of private keys to the multi-signature wallet led to the hack, not the existence of any Horizon vulnerabilities.

“The team found evidence of the private keys being compromised, which led to the Horizon hack. Funds were stolen from the side of the Ethereum bridge,” he said.

According to Immunefi’s estimates, in the first quarter of 2022 alone, crypto projects lost more than $1.22 billion as a result of the actions of hackers and scammers.
