The Paraguay Senate has approved a bill that establishes the regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency industry.
At the end of May, the amended document was approved in the lower house of the country’s parliament. The main change is in the appearance of a supervisory body. According to the project, it will be the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIK).
MIC’s powers will include licensing miners. It is planned to create a register of natural and legal persons providing trading and storage services for digital assets to third parties.
Regulators include the Anti-Money Laundering Secretariat, the National Securities Commission, and the National Energy Administration.
The bill was presented to Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez.
Recall that in June 2021 Congressman Carlos Rehala announced a bill on bitcoin.
He later clarified that Paraguay does not plan to grant legal tender status to digital gold, but will develop an “effective” regulation for cryptocurrencies.
