Finnish Customs sold 1,889 BTC, which was seized during the investigation of drug-related crimes.
According to a press release, the state received around 46.5 million euros from the cryptocurrency sale. The assets were sold by two digital asset service providers.
About 90 BTC are still in customs until another court decision. The agency also confiscated other cryptocurrencies, but did not disclose details due to the ongoing preliminary investigation.
Earlier, it was reported that the Finnish authorities will transfer the proceeds from the sale of the seized bitcoins as aid to Ukraine.
Customs representatives told Decrypt that, according to their information, the proceeds from the sale of cryptocurrencies will indeed be transferred to Ukraine – this has already been approved in the country’s parliament.
