The University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Engineering will offer a series of study programs in virtual worlds by the end of 2022. Asahi reports.
The initiative will make it possible to study information technology, artificial intelligence and programming, regardless of gender, age, social status and place of residence.
School children will be introduced to metaverses and will be informed about career prospects in the industry. University students and current participants in the program will be offered retraining opportunities.
Successfully completing the course requires obtaining a certificate. At the present stage, it is not planned to separate the program into a separate faculty with scientific degrees.
The main purpose of the project is to eliminate the shortage of personnel in the field of digital transformation. The authors of the initiative aim to attract more women to the program because of their shortcomings in the industry.
Recall that in June the government of the autonomous Spanish region of Catalonia announced its plans to launch its own metaverse.
Previously, Samsung Electronics introduced the Space Tycoon playground in the Roblox virtual world.
