British citizen James Howells, who accidentally trashed a hard drive containing 7,500 BTC in 2013, uses two Spot robots from Boston Dynamics to search. Business Insider writes about it.

According to him, the devices are planned to be used to scan the floor and ensure security. They will be equipped with CCTV cameras to protect the storage space at night.

At the current exchange rate, the bitcoins Howells lost are worth more than $160.4 million.

According to The Washington Post, a Spot robop cost $74,500 in August 2021. The price is not specified on Boston Dynamics’ official website – the company suggests contacting its sales department.

The owner of the disc noted in an interview with the publication that he developed a search plan with the help of expert advisors and received funding from two venture investors. However, the City of Newport has yet to approve excavations at the landfill.

A management official said Howells did not provide enough arguments to persuade the city.

“His proposals pose a significant environmental risk that we cannot accept,” the official said.

Howells hopes to resolve this issue. According to him, if the project is implemented, he will name the robots after Satoshi Nakamoto and Hal Finney.

Recall that in January 2021 the Briton offered the Newport authorities about $ 72 million to excavate the landfill, but was refused.

He then announced his intention to use artificial intelligence to find the hard drive.

In the same year, Stefan Thomas, former Ripple CTO and CEO of Coil, talked about the disappearance of the password page to the wallet with 7002 BTC.

Later, his successor at this post, David Schwartz, announced that the former principal also lost access to several hundred bitcoin accounts.
