The New York State Supreme Court rejected a motion to stop the construction of the Greenidge Generation mining facilities near Seneca Lake. This is stated in the press release.

The initiators of the proceedings were the Sierra Club and the Seneca Lake Guardian. According to them, the emergence of new objects for the production of bitcoin threatens the environment.

Judge Daniel J. Doyle stated that the Greenidge Generation project “will not affect the air or water of Seneca Lake.” The petition has no basis, he added.

The resolution states that “Greenidge acted in good faith after obtaining the necessary permits to begin construction.”

According to a press release, this is the fifth case in favor of the company since 2016. Greenidge Belt representatives emphasized that they are working “in full compliance with government permits”.

Greenidge Generation is based in Dresden, New York. In December 2020, environmental organizations and residents of the neighboring city of Torri sued the local government and the company. According to the plaintiffs, the authorities approved the mining center expansion project without an environmental impact statement.

In July 2021, the people of Dresden accused Greenidge Generation of environmental violations. The firm had previously pledged to completely neutralize the carbon footprint of bitcoin mining by purchasing COâ‚‚ emissions allowances.

Recall that Greenidge Generation ordered 22,500 ASIC miners in October to be deployed at new facilities in Texas and South Carolina. Investments to be made in the project located in the second state will reach 264 million dollars.

In March, Greenidge Generation raised $108 million to triple the hash rate to 4.7 EH/s.
