Circle blacklisted the USDC wallet addresses of its mixing service Tornado Cash after its launch. OFAC sanctions.

According to Etherscan, one of the stablecoin operators blocked the movement of at least 75,000 USDC.

Infura and Alchemy infrastructure platforms blocked RPC– Requests to Tornado Cash. Services allow users dapps Interact with blockchain servers. Some commentators attributed the providers’ decision to sanctions.

On August 8, a division of the US Treasury Department placed Tornado Cash on the sanctions list. According to the agency, since the service was created in 2019, attackers have laundered more than $7 billion in cryptocurrencies.

“Circle is a regulated company and complies with enforcement requirements. We took action and blocked Tornado Cash-related addresses as determined by OFAC,” the firm told The Block.

Semenov confirmed that the Github page was blocked.

Recall that in May, the Blender.io cryptocurrency mixer was subject to OFAC sanctions for money laundering by North Korean hackers.
