On September 7, the day the iPhone 14 was introduced, unknowns began the broadcast of an old interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook, attempting to steal cryptocurrencies under the guise of hijacking. Reported by The Verge.
The attackers used an old interview with Cook for CNN from 2018 as the basis for the stream.
They also added the bitcoin and ethereum logos and the “Breaking News” banner to the video feed.

The Apple LIVE channel page URL had nothing to do with the original company.
Users reported that the stream was viewed on their YouTube homepage. This was probably due to his recent research on current issues. Tim Cook was also interviewed at the Vox Media Code conference, alongside the announcement of the iPhone 14.
Scammers tried to trick users into clicking a link that took them to a questionable website promoting cryptocurrency scams.
Currently, the viewership of the broadcast has reached 70,000 people, but the actual number of victims of fraud is not sought.
Within hours, YouTube removed the stream for violating its terms of service.
The Verge, Apple Inc. discovered another live broadcast on a separate channel in his name. It showed an interview with Musk and Block leader Jack Dorsey from 2021 about Bitcoin, and the links led to a fake cryptocurrency site. The number of viewers at the summit exceeded 10,000. This post has also been removed by YouTube management.
Recall that the other day, attackers hacked the Twitter account of audit firm PwC Venezuela to promote the fake distribution of XRP on behalf of Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
Eight hours after the incident, management was able to restore access to the page and remove the phishing links.
