As part of the Crypto Bahamas 2022 conference, FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried talked about the bitcoin exchange’s plans to launch a $1 billion environmental charity fund, Forbes reports.
“As the industry grows, it’s crucial that we keep energy efficiency in mind. “We can do this by transferring most transactions to blockchains with no negative impact on the environment,” said Bankman-Fried.
FTX is monitoring climate impact and considering ways to become a carbon-neutral company, he said. Bankman-Fried described the foundation’s top priority as preventing a new outbreak, Decrypt says.
Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who participates in UN philanthropic environmental programs, will act as a partner and advisor to the initiative.
Recall that in March 2022, Bankman-Fried called crypto aid to Ukraine a “lifeline” from the world. The head of FTX saw this as an example of financial empowerment.
