1/ About a year ago, EU citizens responded to the ECB consultation with a clear message that privacy is by far the most important of any digital euro feature.
The ECB has now released the privacy options in the table with a new presentation👇 https://t.co/sRcaqr89BV pic.twitter.com/WmO4WjYGfk
The document “Privacy Options in the Digital Euro” outlines possible options for ensuring user privacy. CBDC. The authors noted the need to consider this issue “in the context of other EU policy objectives, in particular the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing”.
Hansen stated that the basic scenario is intermediaries (banks) accessing transaction data. According to the fourth slide, the ECB sees the anonymity of digital euro users as undesirable.

The expert noted that at the moment it is not clear “what benefits the digital euro offers compared to existing digital payment instruments”. Encouraged community members to provide feedback on the design of the CBDC.
According to the information on the European Commission’s website, the collection of public comments on the digital euro will end on June 14, 2022. In mid-April, the body received nearly 10,000 comments.
An attempt to issue a digital euro appeared in November 2019. In October 2020, the ECB published a comprehensive report on this topic.
In the spring of 2021, the head of the regulator, Christine Lagarde, said the European Union could issue its own CBDC within four years if politicians approve the project.
In July, the ECB’s Governing Council decided to launch the CBDC working phase, and in October the regulator formed an advisory group on the potential development and deployment of a digital euro.
Recall that the European Commissioner for Financial Affairs, Mairead McGuinness, said that the European Union will consider a bill on CBDC in early 2023.
