Samsung fixes camera blur issue on Galaxy S23 and S23+

Samsung has recently confirmed that it will fix the camera blur issue experienced by some Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ users. Since the phones launched earlier this year, users have reported a blurring issue in certain areas of images captured by the main camera, often referred to as a “banana blur” issue.

According to Samsung, the cause of the problem is the larger aperture of the main camera. The company explained that the bright aperture, which is useful for low-light photos, can lead to noticeable selective focus and blur the background in close-up shots. However, Samsung engineers are actively working on a solution and an upcoming software update is expected to fix the problem.

Meanwhile, Samsung has provided some advice on how to minimize the problem. It is recommended that users step back from the subject if they are approximately 30cm from the camera lens. It is also recommended to hold the phone vertically, not horizontally or at an angle.

It took a while for Samsung to acknowledge the problem and it’s unclear whether the issue can be fully resolved due to its nature. However, some users have suggested that the inclusion of a dual-aperture lens, as seen in previous models such as the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10, could potentially be the solution. Unfortunately, this feature has been removed starting with the Galaxy S20.
