The company worked on a new type of radiator for two years. They named it Halia and it will appear in 2024. In developing Warming Surfaces, we sought to minimize the volume of material used in heating systems and reduce thermal energy consumption.

What is known about Halia

Interestingly, Halia radiators started out as military technology. The Warming Surfaces engineers from the state research center VTT received an order from the military to develop a thermal signature decoy target. It must be a surface that radiates heat and which the enemy can mistake for a tank or other military equipment at night. However, as the work progressed, the researchers realized more and more that their technology could also be applied in the civilian realm – for heating homes and offices.

Because the thickness of the heating elements is less than one millimeter, they can be inserted into almost any material, including fabric. And because they are placed close to the surface and over a large area, they can heat the room almost instantly. If you connect them to the appropriate sensors, heating will occur according to the algorithm set by the program – for example, at a certain time, with breaks, etc.

So far, the company has demonstrated its technology embedded in laminate-like panels. But on the website you can find pictures where the heating elements are on a sofa and a chair. That is, they could possibly be placed directly inside the furniture or provided in the form of a blanket that the user can lay down or cover.

Like other forms of radiant panel heating, the Halia system heats the space more evenly than compressed air heating systems, is quieter and does not take up much space.

The company has signed a contract with Surforma, a Portuguese laminate manufacturer, this fall to test a batch of experimental panels used in office furniture. This will allow you to understand how heating elements behave in a hotter and more humid climate. Mass production is scheduled for 2024.
