Last month, Honor unveiled the Magic V2, the thinnest foldable book-style smartphone to date, measuring an impressive 9.9mm when folded. But now Xiaomi is coming for that title on August 14th with its latest Mix Fold 3.
Xiaomi gave us a brief look at the design and thickness of the Mix Fold 3. According to the company, the foldable smartphone will be an ultra-thin 4.93mm when unfolded and an impressively smooth 9.8mm when folded. For comparison, the previous Mix Fold 2 (review) was 5.4mm and 11.2mm. Next up, the Honor Magic V2, the thinnest device that can be folded horizontally, measures 4.7mm when open and 9.9mm when folded.
This time, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has a new hinge made of high-strength steel and wear-resistant carbon ceramic. It has a more complex 3-stage connecting rod design with 14 moving parts and a total of 198 parts. The trailers showed the Mix Fold 3 has a shiny rectangular camera island on the back. Behind it are three camera sensors with periscopic lenses and LED flash.
Earlier reports also pointed to some features of the Mix Fold 3. The phone is said to have a 4,800mAh battery with 50W wireless charging and 67W wired charging. It is also expected to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and have 512GB/1TB universal flash storage.
