As planned, today Xiaomi unveiled its third-generation foldable smartphone in China. Officially called the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, it is the fourth horizontal folding phone that folds into a tablet.
It is currently the world’s thinnest foldable phone when folded, surpassing the Honor Magic V2, which has held the record so far. It also features a Leica-tuned camera system, just like the company’s regular flagship smartphones. The new folding device also features a new hinge and a redesigned design.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 kept the square look of Mix Fold 2 with some changes. The rectangular camera island is now larger as it houses four lenses instead of three. At just 5.26mm when unfolded and 10.96m when folded, the device features a new drop hinge that is stronger than its predecessor and can withstand over 500,000 bends. The hinge also keeps the screen fixed (pointing mode) at an angle of 45°-135°.
The main folding screen measures 8.03 inches and offers 2K resolution with UTG protection. The 21:9 FHD+ external display, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, measures 6.56 inches.
Both panels use E6 material and support Dolby Vision with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. They can reach a maximum brightness of 2600 nits. Even global brightness levels are estimated at 1300 nits.
These two displays are accompanied by dual stereo speakers. On the software front, the phone is running MIUI 14 Fold based on Android 13. Xiaomi claims that the top 200 apps in China are fully optimized for this phone.
The smartphone is powered by an overclocked version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset combined with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. It is backed by a 4800mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Finally, the device showcases a Leica-tuned quad-camera system and two 20-megapixel front-facing cameras for external and internal displays. The main camera setup includes a 50MP Sony IMX800 main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide unit, a 10MP 3.2x telephoto camera and a 10MP 5x periscope camera. Apart from the ultra-wide camera, the other three have OIS.

It comes in glass and dragon scale fiber options. The first is available in black and gold.
Second, it uses a stronger aviation fiber composite material, which is 36 times stronger than glass. However, both versions cost the same. The foldable smartphone is now up for pre-order in China. It will go on sale from August 16.
