Yesterday Images of the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 series appearedindicates Thunderbolt support. Apple’s next-generation flagships are expected to have a USB-C port to comply with EU regulations. The Cupertino-based tech giant lags far behind its Android rivals when it comes to fast charging for its iPhones. Now, if the 9to5Mac report is indeed true, that’s expected to change.

iPhone 15 series may get fast charging speed

Citing industry sources, 9to5Mac reports that the iPhone 15 series will feature fast charging speeds of up to 35W. This would be a much-needed upgrade as the non-Pro models boast a miserable wired charging speed of 20W, while the Pro variants go up to 27W. The updated charging speed may shorten the charging time as it currently takes about two hours to fully charge the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The post adds that one thing that remains unclear is whether Apple will offer 35W charging speeds to all four iPhone 15 models, or whether it will be limited to Pro variants only. Given Apple’s history of separating the non-Pro from the Pro, the latter option seems entirely possible.

It was previously reported that the Apple iPhone 15 series may have multi-layer battery technology. This, combined with rumored Thunderbolt support, could offer higher charging speeds for future flagships. Apple also sells a 30W USB-C charger for the MacBook Air alongside the 35W dual USB-C charger introduced last year. Both support iPhone at maximum speed.

Earlier in March this year, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone 15 could support fast charging over USB-C, but only with the help of certified cables.
