It’s becoming more and more clear to me Elon Musk’s concept of freedom of speech, which he intends to apply to X, has the freedom of speech that I have as a young blonde athlete. (spoiler: nothing). In fact, he made it clear to us when he started censoring accounts (including one he previously claimed he would never censor…), but these are minor details compared to his messianic claims that he continues to champion this universal right.

While his plans to increase X’s revenue are proving to be as effective as trying to light a lighter under the sea, we still see measures that seem targeted, especiallycontinue to make users less and less interested in the social network that at first he wanted to buy, then he didn’t want to buy anymore and finally, with the risk of a court decision that could harm him a lot, he wanted to buy again.

We are not talking about a rumor or a leak in this case, but something that Musk himself confirmed through his account, namely X will remove the function of blocking social network accounts. What used to be one of the main and most reliable defenses against harassment, spam and other such nuisances seems to be in the sights of a billionaire, perhaps because he believes that free speech means you have the right to let everyone see and read you.

It may seem funny and unofficial, but the truth is that the blocking function, that is, the one we use when we want another user to not be able to see our publications or communicate with us, is in many cases the only way to avoid various situations which ordinary mortals do not want to go through. For example, cases of users becoming obsessed with other users are commonplace, responding to all their posts, stalking them based on what they say in their messages, and so on. Blocking will not completely eliminate these risks, but at least reduce them significantly.

What would already be a problem in a civilized social network becomes a much more important problem if we cross it recent reports of massive amounts of hate speech which roams freely for X. In addition to opposing views, I am talking about anti-Semitic, racist, homophobic profiles and other “jewels” who do not hesitate to spread their message to the four winds, causing even more advertisers to decide to leave x

What will Elon Musk gain by removing the blocking feature from X? It is not clear to me. Perhaps you have heard that your account is blocked by many users? I don’t know, but I know the character, it’s the theory I give the most credence to.
