At this week’s Google I/O event, participants of the public beta testing program Android 13 were announced and featured nearly a dozen smartphone manufacturers, including HMD Global. While most manufacturers immediately introduced the models participating in the program, HMD Global remained silent until the last moment.

Perhaps it was quiet because a non-flagship model was chosen for testing: the Nokia X20 is based on the Snapdragon 480 5G SoC. However, this model received Android 13 (albeit beta, but official release), the first from Nokia.

The manufacturer points out that Android 13 is available as an over-the-air upgrade for Nokia X20 users who signed up for beta testing. But this update needs to be installed in a meaningful way: if something goes wrong (and this is more than possible since the early beta is clearly not stable), then the next rollback to Android 12 will remove all user data from the smartphone.
