Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple plans to launch at least one iPhone 15 model with a USB-C port in 2023. Now in another tweet, he said that accessories like AirPods, MagSafe battery, and the Magic Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad trio, which are available for purchase from Apple, will also switch to USB-C in the “foreseeable future”.
Both the iPhone and all of the above accessories now use Apple’s proprietary connector for wired charging and/or data transfer. The move to USB-C will create a more universal connectivity standard and satisfy regulators, as a large number of Android smartphones and even the latest MacBook and a wide variety of technical products including iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini are equipped with USB-C ports. . .
1. Portless iPhone may cause more problems due to current limitations of wireless technologies and immature MagSafe ecosystem.
2. Other Lightning port products (eg AirPods, Magic Keyboard / Trackpad / Mouse, MagSafe Battery) will also switch to USB-C in the near future. https://t.co/KD14TgBmtr– éƒæ˜Ž (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) May 15, 2022
“My most recent survey shows that the new iPhone has been disconnected from the Lightning port and switched to the USB-C port. USB-C can improve iPhone’s transfer speed and charging in hardware review but the increased data transfer rate is still boosted from iOS support.“, Ming-Chi Kuo
Kuo also suggested that due to current limitations in wireless technology and the immaturity of Apple’s own MagSafe wireless accessory ecosystem that magnetically attaches to the iPhone, it’s still too early to launch an iPhone without a port.
