European Samsung fans may be in for a surprise. The upcoming Galaxy S24 series will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 2400 chip instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This information comes courtesy of reliable leak resource Ice Universe, which claims this applies to “Europe at least.”

Maybe Samsung wants to cut costs with the Galaxy S24 chipset

This marks a sharp departure from last year when all Galaxy S23s were powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips. Interestingly, prior to this Samsung traditionally preferred its own Exynos chips for its global releases. So is this a return to nostalgic form or a smart business strategy?

The Exynos 2400 is not a lightweight model; It has a ten-core setup with a maximum clock speed of 3.19 GHz for the main CPU core. It is almost on par with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor whose main core is running at the same clock frequency. With all that said, there are some differences: Snapdragon is said to have a 1+5+2 core configuration compared to Exynos’ 1+2+3+4 layout, which could potentially offer a variety of performance metrics.

One reason may be cost. Snapdragon chips are not cheap and license fees are charged. By choosing the Exynos, Samsung may be looking for ways to cut costs, especially as it increases RAM on its flagship phones in 2024, which is another expense to consider.

Samsung’s decision may cause mixed reactions. On the one hand, the ranks of Samsung can rejoice at the return of native Exynos chips. On the other hand, skeptics may view it as a cost-cutting move, potentially compromising the performance of the economy. In any case, the decision will be announced when the Galaxy S24 hits the European market. For now, all eyes are on Samsung to see how this gamble turns out.
