The world consumer electronics fair IFA started today in Berlin. It will last until September 5th. Many brands started the event with the announcements of their various products. Chinese brand Honor has unveiled two devices that include the Magic V2 foldable phone and the trendy V Purse concept phone. The first was announced in the company’s home market, but is now rolling out globally to compete with the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The characteristics of the global variant remain the same as its Chinese counterpart.
Honor Magic V2 goes global, specs and features
Honor Magic V2 is launched as the thinnest foldable phone, measuring 4.7mm when folded and 9.9m when unfolded. It is also said to be lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, weighing just 237 grams. Honor claims the foldable phone has an ultralight titanium hinge and the brand’s proprietary hinge that can withstand over 400,000 bends, i.e. 10 years of use and 100 twists per day. The hinge also allows users to use the device at different angles. There is a fingerprint scanner placed next to the power button.
The Honor Magic V2 has a 6.43-inch primary external display with a resolution of 2376×1060 pixels, while the internal display measures 7.92 inches with a resolution of 2344×2156 pixels. Both display panels feature BOE-supplied OLED panels and feature high-frequency PWM dimming along with a 120Hz LTPO refresh rate to reduce eye strain.
The Honor Magic V2 has a rectangular camera module on the back. The setup consists of a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 20MP telephoto lens that supports up to 40x zoom. Both the internal and external displays feature a 16MP sensor for selfies.
Under the hood of the Honor Magic V2 is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Red Magic 8S Pro series. The foldable phone packs 16GB of RAM and is available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage configurations. It is powered by a 5000mAh battery with 66W charging support.
Honor has not disclosed the price of the Magic V2 for global markets. It is expected to vary by region. The device will hit shelves no later than the first quarter of 2024, with a six-month wait between Chinese and global versions.
