Huawei Mate 60 Pro 5G exceeds expectations, shipments to exceed 12 million

While Huawei did not launch 5G-enabled smartphones in the Chinese market due to US sanctions, its competitors offered 5G phones in various price categories. However, Huawei surprised the tech world last week by announcing the 5G-capable Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro in the Chinese market. According to well-known market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the demand for these devices was truly phenomenal.

In fact, the demand for the Mate 60 Pro is so strong that Huawei’s supply plan for the second half of 2023 has increased by a massive 20 percent to 5.5-6 million units. A recent report revealed that the brand had sold around 1 million units of the Mate 60 Pro with pre-orders in just 5 days in China.

To put things in perspective, let’s look at how the Mate 60 Pro compares to its predecessors. Released in September 2022, the Mate 50 Pro 4G shipped around 2.5 million units in total in 12 months. The Mate 40 Pro 5G, which was launched in October 2020, reached 6 million units in the same period. Based on this remarkable trend, Kuo believes that the cumulative shipment of the Mate 60 Pro 5G will exceed 12 million units in its first year of launch.

But that’s not all. Huawei’s smartphone shipments are expected to increase by an impressive 65 percent year-on-year, reaching a total of 38 million units in 2023. This growth can be attributed to the high demand and market impact of the Mate 60 series.

According to Kuo, Huawei’s smartphone shipments are expected to reach 60 million units by 2024. Therefore, it is expected to be the smartphone brand with the highest supply growth worldwide.

Kuo says the success of the Mate 60 Pro has also drawn the attention of Huawei’s supply chain companies to the stock markets. The supply chain includes China’s self-sufficient semiconductor companies, other firms that supply semiconductors to Huawei but not listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) or Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE), HWA, which provides satellite communications chips to Huawei. Create and HWA Create, which provides satellite communications chips to Huawei. Companies in the optical sector such as Largan Optical, Sunny Optical, Will Semi, Smartsens and Billu.

While the Mate 60 5G and Mate 60 Pro 5G have certainly made a big impact, it’s worth noting that these impressive devices are currently only available in the Chinese market. Looking at the year 2024, Huawei is preparing to continue its revival in the smartphone industry. The company is expected to launch more 5G phones in the Chinese market in 2024 and expand to other markets around the world.
