Kayan Drans from Apple stated that they support the new generation Qi2 charging standard during the introduction of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro smartphones, but according to Macrumors, the charging capacity has not increased.

Apple’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro specification pages state that Qi-based charging is still limited to 7.5W, while MagSafe charging is limited to 15W.

Qi2 is a new wireless charging standard based on Apple’s MagSafe charging technology. It includes a magnetic power profile that allows smartphones to “align perfectly with chargers” and is designed to “increase energy efficiency and charge faster.” Some companies have announced Qi2 chargers that support up to 15W, just like MagSafe, but the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will not support the faster 15W Qi2 charging feature.

There has been no improvement in MagSafe charging speeds either, and rumors that we might see faster wired charging have not been confirmed. 9to5Mac had previously reported that the iPhone 15 could support faster charging speeds using a 35W charger, but Apple’s specs page did not list any fast charging improvements. It is stated that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will continue to charge up to 50% in approximately 30 minutes when using a 20W or more power adapter.
