Apple will launch iOS 17 on September 18th

Users with a supported iPhone can mark Monday, September 18th on their calendar when Apple releases iOS17.

Apple unveiled its latest phones last night and then you know a new update is on the way too. We’ve already reported on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max, now it’s the turn of iOS 17, which is scheduled to launch on September 18th.

Keep communicating

Phones are still partly designed to connect with one another, and Apple hasn’t forgotten that with this upgrade. You can personalize your call when you call, and if a call is missed, you can see a transcript of the voicemail message left (and decide whether to respond).

If the missed call is via FaceTime, you can leave a video or audio message. Do you prefer a larger screen? Then make a video call using your Apple TV. There are also many new effects that add spice to a call.

There are also a number of upgrades to iMessage with more and better ways to share, save and search. You can also see the transcript of an audio message.

Do you have a nice photo? You can then convert it into a (live) sticker including effects. You can then use this in any app in which you can also send emojis.

There are also three new options for Memoji.

Practically speaking

When you charge your iPhone, you can put it on its side in standby mode to take advantage of many new features, such as tracking live activity. There are also several additions to Siri, such as the disappearance of “Hey.”

There are now interactive widgets for quicker access to certain functionalities and now a NameDrop is no longer a bragging rights, but rather sharing a contact with someone via AirDrop. You can also place two iPhones next to each other to start a SharePlay session.

iOS 17 also brings updates to your keyboard, Safari browser, security (passwords and passkeys), and privacy settings. When you search for an app with Spotlight, the system will now immediately suggest your next action. Visual search on the Internet has also been improved.

You can now also download maps in Maps and use them offline. The app now also offers ideal routes for electric vehicles.

There are also upgrades for:

  • Health app
  • Isolation mode
  • Freeform
  • Apple ID
  • photos
  • Home
  • Find mine
  • Condition
  • PDFs
  • Remarks
  • Memories
  • Accessibility

Dear Diary

We would also like to draw attention to the new journal app. Via AI suggests memories you might want to write about. This could be photos, workouts, music, or other content on your iPhone.

Music, master

iOS 17 makes it easier to share SharePlay and create playlists with different people. The AirPlay app then gradually learns your preferences using machine learning. The system also makes suggestions. In the near future there will also be hotels that offer AirPlay, then all you need to do is scan a QR code.

There is a completely new mode for the second generation of AirPods Pro: Adaptive Audio. You can also easily turn the pods on and off and quickly switch between devices when needed.

As mentioned, iOS 17 will be available after the weekend, on Monday, September 18th.
