It took a while, but OnePlus’ first foldable is here. Its official name is OnePlus Open and be very careful because we are facing a problem. Definite candidate for one of the biggest doubles of the moment.

OnePlus Open is a foldable device that stands out with its design with its renewed hinge and much lighter body than its competitors. To this we must add the dual AMOLED screen, a camera configuration worthy of top-end and cutting-edge components. This is what OnePlus is offering with its first foldable feature. It took a while, but it lives up to expectations.

Being foldable doesn’t mean being heavy

OnePlus provides information that lets us guess what its idea is. OnePlus Open is lighter than iPhone 14 Pro Max: 239 grams. When we look at the thickness and dimensions, it is 11.9 millimeters when folded and 5.8 millimeters when opened. Compared to one of its competitors, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is 13.4mm and 6.1mm.

At the construction level, OnePlus Open is similar to other models of the brand. It also has a body complete with an Alert Slider button, a circular rear camera module, and two options of emerald green or black vegan leather.

One of the changes is the architecture of the hinge, which is one of the most relevant components in folding phones. OnePlus explains that the normally over 100 parts have been reduced to 69 to offer a lighter and at the same time durable hinge, with a theoretical lifespan of 10 years.

On the protection level, OnePlus chooses not to use Gorilla Glass Victus and opts for Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic ProtectionIt promises to be 20% more robust. The device offers IPX4 certification against splashes.

As a result it can be folded Dual 2K AMOLED displays with up to 2,800 nits of brightness and 120 Hz refresh rate. The interior panel is a 2K Flexi-Fluid panel with LTPO 3.0 technology and measures 7.82 inches with a frame ratio of almost 1.0758:1.

On the outside, a 6.31-inch panel with a 20:09 ratio and similar technical features is offered. According to brand data, almost the entire outer surface of the OnePlus Open consists of a screen, as it covers 91.8% of the body. The interior covers 89.6% of the body, offering one of the highest proportions in a foldable phone.

Accompanying the visual quality, OnePlus adds Dolby Atmos compatible dual stereo speakers. At the connectivity level, it comes with WiFi 7, 5G, NFC and Bluetooth 5.3.

Without power and recording anything from camera

OnePlus Open has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 inside 16GB LPDDDR5X RAM and OnePlus’ own RAM-Vita technology to better manage memory. Storage is UFS 4.0, 512GB.

At the battery level, there is 4,805 mAh with 67W fast charging, which promises to charge to 100% in approximately 42 minutes.

Android 13 and OxygenOS 12.3 are responsible for the software. OnePlus has added several ‘Open Canvas’ software features, including a sort of desktop-type icon bar, to accommodate the body of foldable devices. OnePlus will offer four years of system updates and five years of security updates.

Nothing was recorded for the OnePlus camera either. It presents Sony’s LYTIA system as foldable for the first time. Main sensor equivalent to 48 megapixel IMX989 and a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens with an f/1.7 aperture lens.

It is complemented by a 64-pixel telephoto sensor with OIS, 3x optical zoom and “6x lossless”. Plus high resolution digital zoom up to 120x.

In terms of camera, OnePlus Open continues its alliance with Hasselblad, mainly in terms of portrait effect. As for the front camera, a 20 megapixel sensor has been chosen.

The new OnePlus Open is now available for reservation in Spain and will go on sale on October 26. It is available in emerald green color and its official price: 1,899 euros.
