Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) reported a significant increase in panel shipments for the iPhone 15 series. Data shows a 16% increase in panel shipments compared to the iPhone 14 series and a 21% increase compared to October in the same period through October. Corresponding period for iPhone 13 in 2021.
DSCC findings indicate that the popularity of iPhone 15 Pro models increased especially in October. Pro variants accounted for an impressive 71% share of total panel shipments, a significant increase from the 65% share recorded in September.
In particular, the higher starting price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max ($1,199 with 256GB storage) compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max ($1,099 with 128GB storage), affected the average selling price (ASP). The ASP of the iPhone 15 series recorded a 5% increase over the iPhone 14 series, indicating consumers’ willingness to choose options with larger memory.
Samsung Display (SDC) remains a key player in Apple’s supply chain, contributing significantly to iPhone 15 series panel shipments. SDC continues to be a reliable and consistent supplier for Apple, accounting for 81% of panels shipped from June through October. This trend coincides with previous years, when SDC played a key role in supplying panels for all four iPhone models in 2023, 2022 and 2021.
But recently other panel suppliers have also emerged on the scene. LG Display (LGD) began offering displays for the iPhone 15 Pro Max in September and had achieved an 18% share of the model by October. Additionally, China’s BOE entered the supply chain last month by taking a 1% stake in the iPhone 15 series.
DSCC Senior Scientific Director David Naranjo points out the trend of iPhone 15 Pro models becoming increasingly popular. Naranjo claims: “From June to October, panel shipments for iPhone 15 Pro models accounted for a larger share than for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro models.” Overall, iPhone 15 Pro models had a share of 64%, surpassing the 54% recorded by the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 in the same period.
In summary, the latest data shows that the demand for the iPhone 15 series has increased due to the popularity of the Pro models.
