In addition to POCO, Civi and Redmi, Xiaomi has another sub-brand called Black Shark, which sells powerful smartphones with a bold design and focuses on the avid gaming smartphone market.

After launching the Black Shark 5 series in China two months ago, the brand is finally bringing the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro to Malaysia, the first world market. The new devices will be officially launched in the country on June 8 (Wednesday) at 19:00 Malaysian time (UTC +8) / 16:30 Indian time (UTC +5:30).

Black Shark is expected to announce pre-order prices and promotions for the Black Shark 5 series today.

As for the technical specifications of the Black Shark 5 series, we expect the global versions of the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro to be the same as the versions announced in China on March 30.

In China, the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED FHD+ display (2400 × 1080 pixels) with a variable refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. The display is a Samsung E4 AMOLED panel with a maximum brightness of 1300 nits, DC dimming, HDR10+ support and 100% P3 color gamut coverage. The devices also have a sampling rate of 720 Hz and a dual-zone pressure-sensitive display that can improve the gameplay on your smartphone.

Performance-wise, the Black Shark 5 Pro is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC along with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1+ SSD storage. This combination of UFS + SSD storage is what Xiaomi calls Disk Array 2.0 technology, and read and write speeds for the 5 Pro have increased by 55% and 69% respectively.

Meanwhile, the standard Black Shark 5 has a Snapdragon 870 SoC coupled with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Both gaming devices have a 4650 mAh battery with support for fast charging technology with a capacity of 120 watts, and the company claims that the phones can be fully charged in just 15 minutes. A charger is included and the device comes with a Black Shark JoyUI 13 interface based on Android 12.
