According to reports on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, some owners noticed that small orange stains appeared on their trucks after just a few days of driving in the rain. They claim that these stains are a sign of corrosion and need to be polished to eliminate them.
Why is this happening?
Tesla owner’s manual, Cybertruck’s exterior prone to corrosionHe advises vehicle owners to immediately remove corrosive substances such as grease, oil, bird droppings or road salt from the vehicle. He also recommends using water and a mild, detergent-free soap to clean the truck.
However, some owners claim that the rust problem is not related to external pollution, but to the shortcomings of stainless steel itself. They note that the Cybertruck should be made of a special alloy that is resistant to stains and rust, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk demonstrated by hitting the truck with a sledgehammer during the launch.
The Cybertruck’s stainless steel bodywork is one of its most distinctive features, as it gives the vehicle a rugged and futuristic look. It is also expected to offer additional strength and protection, as Musk claims the truck can withstand bullets.

However, the stainless steel body also creates some difficulties in maintenance and repair as it requires special tools and technologies for its operation. Some vehicle owners choose to wrap their trucks with vinyl or other materials to prevent rust problems and personalize their vehicles.
Tesla has not officially commented on the rust issue, but some owners say they contacted local service centers and were told they would call back when tools and solutions became available.
The rust problem was the latest problem experienced by Cybertruck, which has faced many production and design problems since its debut. The truck was originally planned to be delivered in late 2021, but due to supply chain issues and regulatory hurdles, the timeline was pushed to 2022. The truck also had to be modified to meet safety standards and legal regulations, such as the addition of side mirrors and windshield wipers.
Despite the challenges, Cybertruck remains one of the most anticipated and excited vehicles in the electric vehicle market, with more than one million pre-orders as of July 2021. It is expected to compete with other electric and hybrid pickups such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV.
