Earlier this month, Motorola announced the Motorola Edge 50 Pro in India at a starting price of Rs 31,999 (~$380). This price allows the device to compete with some of the latest smartphones such as Realme 12 Pro+ 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G, iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G, OPPO Reno 11 Pro 5G, Vivo V30 5G, Samsung Galaxy A35 5G and more. While some of these phones outperform the Edge 50 Pro in some areas, such as the iQOO phone that offers a better Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, the Edge 50 Pro has some interesting features that give it a “head start” over other devices. Here is an overview of the five main advantages of the device.
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro has an AMOLED display on the front with curved edges and thin bezels. For durability, the device has an IP68-rated metal frame and casing that protects it from dust and water damage. It is available in three shades like Black Beauty, Moonlight Pearl and Luxe Lavender. The black and lavender silicone has a vegan back, while the white version has a handmade design. Although Motorola doesn’t advertise much, each color variant comes with a case that matches that color.
The company claims that the Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s 6.7-inch curved-edge P-OLED display is the world’s first and only Pantone-certified True Color display. It delivers true-to-life, true-to-life colors with Pantone skin tone approval for a wide range of human skin tones. The screen supports 1.5K resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate, 10-bit billion colors, 2000 nits peak brightness and HDR10 + support. Additionally, the screen includes SGS Eye Protection technology for comfortable long-term use.
Motorola Edge 50 Pro has an all-round camera with a 50-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and f/1.4 aperture. This main camera is complemented by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera that also serves as a macro camera. Additionally, the 10-megapixel telephoto camera supports 3x optical zoom and 30x hybrid zoom. On the front panel of the Edge 50 Pro, there is a 50-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus with f / 1.9 improved aperture. Front and rear cameras support 4K video recording.
For better photography, Edge 50 Pro includes a variety of smart camera features. The AI Photo Enhancement Engine enhances image quality with advanced dynamic range, fine details, software bokeh and noise reduction, without requiring any skill from the user. Adaptive AI Stabilization ensures shake-free video by dynamically adjusting stabilization levels to compensate for movement while shooting. Tilt Shift lets you create creative portraits with multiple focus points, while Smart AF Tracking keeps subjects sharp and in focus even as they move within the frame.
The Edge 50 Pro is available in two variants. The 12GB RAM+256GB storage retail package includes a 125W fast charger. On the other hand, the retail box of the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage option includes a 68W charger. Both models are equipped with a 4500 mAh battery.
My review device, the Edge 50 Pro, took about 21 minutes to fully charge using the 125W superfast charger. In terms of performance, the Edge 50 Pro has the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, which also powers models such as OnePlus Nord CE 4 and Vivo V30 5G. The device is equipped with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.
The Edge 50 Pro comes with Android 14 and is the first Motorola phone to come with the new Hello UI instead of MyUX. The Lenovo-owned company has confirmed that the Edge 50 Pro will receive Android 15, 16 and 17 updates, as well as three years of security patches. There are only a few third-party apps, apart from a few apps from Google and a few apps from Motorola.
The new software includes Moto Gestures to control the device without touching the screen, Thickhead security, Moto Connect to wirelessly connect the phone to a TV or PC for work or entertainment, and AI-generated wallpapers.
The base model of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which offers an 8GB + 256GB configuration with 68W fast charging support, is priced at Rs 31,999 (~$380). On the other hand, the 12GB + 256GB version of the device with 125W fast charging support is offered for sale at a price of Rs 35,999 (~$430). The phone can be purchased from Flipkart and Motorola India website.
Edge 50 Pro can also be purchased in Europe. Its price is £599 in the UK and €699 in the rest of Europe. It is also expected to launch in other markets in Asia, Latin America and Oceania.
