Apple allegedly hired Hollywood directors to develop the content, including John Fabre, executive producer of the “Prehistoric Planet” miniseries on Apple TV+. Fabre allegedly tried to resurrect dinosaurs with a headset.
The device itself, described as “a pair of ski goggles”, will offer both virtual and augmented reality experiences. The product is expected to launch in 2023, and WWDC 2022 may announce software tools for content creation.
According to the publication, Apple hired Mike Rockwell, an engineer from Dolby Technologies, and appointed him to lead the project. According to two sources, previous attempts to develop an augmented reality headset have encountered problems with low computing power.
It is also alleged that power issues are forcing Apple to delay the release until next year.
A new type of device
It will be remembered that in mid-May, Bloomberg wrote that Apple showed the company’s board members the future glasses. It also became clear that the company is accelerating the development of its realityOS operating system.
Apple has yet to confirm that the project is actually in development, but indirect evidence of its existence has been overwhelming. The company has registered the RealityOS brand in the “Peripherals”, “Software” and “Wearable Computer Hardware” categories, which is likely to be given to the device’s software platform in the near future. It was learned that the AR/VR-headset prototype was shown to the Apple board in May.
By the way, recently there was information that Apple started creating AR/VR headsets in 2015. Early prototypes were incredibly heavy, and some even ran on Windows. Finally, after the new direction was finally decided, a long work began on a new device that we could see very soon.
