Analysts Counterpoint Research recently hastened to say that according to the results of the first quarter of this year, Huawei managed to occupy 35% of the smartphone market with its flexible screen and complex body mechanism, while Samsung fell to 23%. . TrendForce representatives believe that by the end of 2024, Samsung will retain leadership and 50% of the market, and the share of such devices in total global smartphone sales will not exceed 1.5%.

According to TrendForce analysts, according to this year’s results, 17.8 million complex smartphones will be sold, which corresponds to approximately 1.5% of the total number of smartphones to be sold in 2024. By 2028, the share of complex smartphones could rise to 4.8%.

In fact, according to TrendForce, market leader Samsung’s share is gradually decreasing under the pressure of competitors. If in 2022 the Korean company controls more than 80% of the segment, then in 2023 the indicator dropped to 60% and, according to the results of the current period, will approach 50%. At the same time, Huawei will have a share of 30.8% this year, but will not be able to overtake Samsung overall, although Counterpoint Research data claims that the Chinese company has already done this in the first quarter of this year. Last year, Huawei occupied only 12% of the foldable smartphone market. In the third quarter, this manufacturer’s position in the segment will be strengthened by the production of the model with triple insertion.

Motorola may rank third with a 6.2% share and sales of more than 1 million foldable smartphones by the end of 2024. This is followed by Honor (3.9%), Xiaomi (2.8%), Oppo (2.8%) and Vivo (2.8%), but each is unlikely to sell 1 million complex smartphones this year. At the same time, Chinese brand Nubia had introduced its flexible-screen Flip model to the Japanese market at a price of $499, so the advancement of Chinese component suppliers will make such devices more affordable. According to some estimates, Apple will not release its flexible screen iPhone before 2027, as it sets higher requirements for wear resistance and durability of products.
