In 2022, 1X partnered with OpenAI to combine robotics with artificial intelligence and lay the foundation for embodied learning. This partnership pushed 1X to create robots Can understand and perform complex real-world tasks in a variety of environmentsespecially in workplaces.

Eve’s new skills

The latest demonstration introduced Eve, a wheeled service robot that performs a series of cleaning tasks guided by natural language commands.

This was possible thanks to innovative robot control interface From 1X, which interprets high-level language commands. This interface allows a single operator to control multiple humanoid robots simultaneously, increasing efficiency and operational capacity.

  • In March, 1X announced a breakthrough in its autonomous model, which now supports a wide range of tasks within a single behavioral AI system. This includes practical tasks such as removing items from a bag, sorting them and placing them in designated storage areas.
  • Initially, adding many tasks caused a decrease in performance, but 1X overcame this problem by increasing the model parameters and extending the training time.

The company’s blog post details the new user experience provided by this high-level language interface.

Instead of the traditional method of using virtual reality (VR) to control a single robot, operators can now control multiple robots using short, high-level commands. This method makes remote control of robots more efficient by reducing the frequency of commands.

In the future, 1X plans to integrate large language models such as GPT-4o, VILA and Gemini Vision into its control systems. This integration aims to further increase the complexity and autonomy of robots, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in human-robot collaboration.
