All eyes are on what’s coming in a few months: the launch of the iPhone 16. Apple is expected to stay conservative with four models in its family for this generation: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
While these models will take center stage in 2024, there is a new iPhone that has been buzzing non-stop: the 17 Slim. Rumors of a thinner iPhone, halfway between the Compact and Plus sizes, are resonating strongly, and this is what we think we know right now.
A thinner designThe name Slim refers to the thickness of the phone. According to leaks, this will be the thinnest iPhone 17 in the family. The chassis will be made of aluminum, which suggests it will not have “Pro” features.
Dynamic Island will also be a bit narrower, with some analysts talking about a design change similar to that seen on the iPhone X.
A smaller screenThe iPhone 17 Slim had a clear goal: replace the iPhone 16 Plus. This latest model would have a 6.7-inch panel, the same dimensions as the iPhone 15 Plus.
The iPhone 17 Slim will jump to 6.55 inches, a size halfway between the 6.1 inches of the access model and the current 6.7 inches. This is where most doubts arise, as Apple will still be experimenting with the dimensions of the device.
An interesting design for camerasSome of the rumors about the iPhone 17 Slim, compiled by The Information, talk about cameras positioned in a horizontal strip, like the Google Pixel. This would be a configuration that would not suit us very well, since spatial video recording would be abandoned.
With the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, the position of the cameras will be changed to be able to record in Vision Pro format, so this is the rumor that has the least weight at the moment.
An anti-reflective layer. One of the most interesting rumors about this phone comes from one of the most accurate leaks in China, which tells us that the iPhone 17 Slim will have an anti-reflective layer on its screen, similar to what we saw on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
If this model includes it, hopefully other models will as well. This marks the before and after on the iPhone screen.
Finally, ProMotion. It is expected that by 2026 the basic iPhones will have ProMotion. That is, an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. Apple is the only company that has kept 60Hz in the high range, and nothing suggests that the next-gen 16 will change that direction.
We don’t know what the price will be.While rumors point to a model that will replace the iPhone 16 Plus, others are talking about a model that is more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Therefore, we are going to talk about the most expensive iPhone of the family, something that must be associated with the best features of the iPhone 17. The iPhone 17 Slim is only a rumor for now, but when so many rivers are heard, the iPhone 17 Slim is only a rumor, the project has a higher probability of continuing.
