China creates first AI processor: It has Western technology

What is known

The company said that great efforts have been made to develop and produce the new chip and it has finally reached the production stage. Mass production is expected to begin soon.

Cixin P1 stands out in the market because Based on ARM-based architectureIt is similar to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processors that have become popular in the AI PC market.

As for the specific technical specifications:

  • The chip is manufactured using a 6-nanometer process using a 12-core ARM processor with eight productive cores and four efficient cores.
  • The processor operates at a maximum frequency of 3.2 gigahertz and is considered to be extremely efficient when compared to similar solutions on the market.
  • Cixin P1 packs up to 45 TOPS of AI computing power, which meets the industry standard, similar to what rivals like AMD’s Ryzen AI 300, Intel’s Lunar Lake, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X CPU can offer. 45 TOPS also means the chip is ready for the “PC AI” segment with full compatibility with Copilot+ platforms.
  • As for other details, Cixin P1 supports up to 64 gigs of LPDDR5-6400 RAM, and in terms of display, it can support up to 4K 120 FPS connection.
  • The chip can also support PCIe 4.0 interfaces along with USB Type-C, suggesting that it is ready for industrial adoption.

All this is known only from the manufacturer’s words, as no tests have been published so far. It is not clear whether it will be able to compete with AMD and Qualcomm, but on paper they look pretty close.

Sanctions are not terrible

But what is most interesting is that this Chinese company has acquired ARM technology for production. This is probably because Cixin Technology is not yet a large and prominent player and therefore is not on the sanctions list.

There is no doubt that the Chinese authorities are watching this production and want this chip to be in their military technology “collections”. The race in the field of artificial intelligence against the background of extensive sanctions against China’s military sphere leaves no other choice.
