Apple has been announcing over the past few months that artificial intelligence features it calls Apple Intelligence would be coming to iPhones with iOS 18. Last week, we rolled out the first beta of iOS 18.1, which will include these features. This developer-only version allowed for testing of artificial intelligence features.
Among the features released with the beta version were the innovations that came to the email application. These features could sort emails by importance and were meant to save users time. However, from the information received, it turned out that this did not work very well.
Apple Intelligence Appears to Highlight Scam Emails
Within the scope of Apple Intelligence, it was found that the artificial intelligence-powered filtering feature that came to the Mail application was targeting fraudulent emails. Many Reddit users stated that the feature prioritizes scam emails instead of deleting them.
This shows that Apple Intelligence cannot distinguish between malicious emails and regular emails, or worse, prioritize them. At the same time, it only categorizes the texts and does not look at the sender address or other important details. All this poses serious risks for users.
However, it is possible to say that Apple will fix this problem. This is the purpose of developer betas, which are usually full of bugs. Developers discover these bugs and give feedback to Apple, which fixes them until the final version. So this problem will probably be fixed when Apple Intelligence becomes generally available.
Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence features, which will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, will come to users with iOS 18.1, which is expected to be available in October.
