vivo became the first manufacturer to offer Android 15 to users. Its custom skins, Funtouch OS 15, are rolling out on some flagship devices ahead of offerings from Google and Samsung. Although the official launch is planned for September 30, some lucky Vivo users have already tried it. Android15.

Vivo rolls out Android 15 update

Google and Samsung have traditionally been the first companies to release major Android updates to Pixel and Galaxy devices, respectively.

For example, the Pixel 9 series is still waiting for the Android 15 update, which is expected to be released in mid-October. Samsung’s update schedule has not been announced, but it is clear that they are currently behind Vivo.

So which lucky Vivo devices will get early access to Android 15? The update is currently available for Vivo X100 series, Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and iQOO 12.

For these users, Funtouch OS 15, in addition to the features offered by Android 15, also includes an AI-powered “Eraser” tool in the Gallery app, possibly similar to Google Photos’ Magic Eraser. There’s also a drop shadow tool for photo editing enthusiasts.

Additionally, Funtouch OS 15 includes a Live Caption feature that displays words on the phone as they are spoken. This is an accessibility supplement for the hearing impaired.

Android 15 itself has some useful features like Private Space for managing personal apps (a feature already offered by Vivo) and partial screen sharing for secure collaboration.

But the biggest story is undoubtedly Vivo’s lead in the update race. This is likely the first Android update to roll out to non-Pixel devices before it reaches Google’s flagship lineup.

Of course, it’s still early days and we’ll have to see if Vivo can maintain this advantage in future update cycles. But for now, Vivo users with compatible devices have the bragging rights (and perks) of being among the first to experience Android 15.
