Company Huawei China has a stronger foothold in the tablet market than ever before. The Chinese tech giant is ahead for the second consecutive quarter, according to a recent report from Canalys Apple according to the supply volume of tablets.

Huawei sent more tablets to China than Apple

The report shows that Huawei shipped 20.5 million tablets in China in the second quarter of 2024, representing a dominant market share of 26%. This not only earned it the top spot, but it also showed a significant increase of 66% compared to the previous year.

The success can probably be attributed to Huawei’s aggressive launch strategy. Various MatePad series, including the recently released dual-layer OLED MatePad Pro 12.2, seem to resonate well with Chinese consumers.

Apple found itself in a less rosy situation, despite a similar market share to Huawei (about 20.1 million tablets). The Cupertino-based company faced a 14% decline in year-over-year growth; This suggests that it is perhaps struggling to keep up with the growing Chinese tablet market.

When you factor in local players like Xiaomi and Honor, the competition becomes even tougher. Xiaomi ranked third with 9.25 million tablet sales, while Honor ranked fourth with 6.5 million units, showing an impressive annual growth of 63%.

This trend clearly demonstrates the increasing competitiveness of the Chinese tablet market, as local vendors offer attractive alternatives to traditional giants such as Apple.

This increase in competition has also increased overall tablet sales in China. According to the Canalys report, the Chinese market saw a 20% increase in tablet shipments compared to the previous quarter; This was likely due to aggressive online promotions. Additionally, the market research firm predicts a 9% increase in shipments for the full year.

Looking ahead, the focus appears to be shifting towards AI features. Canalys expects technology vendors to use AI functionality to differentiate their products and attract customers in a market increasingly saturated with powerful devices.
