LG has developed a display that doesn’t need a speaker: it generates sound by itself

Instead of speakers, the sound is emitted by the screen itself. As the manufacturer explains, the new technology is called Film CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) and is recommended for creating a home theater, as it provides better quality sound and picture than most cinemas in the world.

How does it work

  • The innovation is based on OLED.EX technology, where the low brightness problem of OLED peaks is eliminated.
  • For this, LG engineers replaced the unstable hydrogen in organic light-emitting elements with stable deuterium.
  • This increased the reliability of the elements and made it possible to increase their brightness by 30 percent.
  • They also succeeded in increasing the accuracy of color rendering with the help of specially developed algorithms.
  • The second advantage of the new panel is available on the back of the screen is a thin-film exciter that creates vibrations on the screen itself.
  • They are converted into acoustic signals, which are converted into sound with the help of an integrated 5.1-channel sound system.
  • So the huge screen performs two functions at once – displays a picture and emits cinema-quality sound.

Of course, such an innovation cannot be cheap from the start. For such a TV you will have to pay at least $ 25,000. Over time, the technology is likely to become cheaper if it reaches the mass production stage.

The company also showed different sizes of transparent display panels for workplaces, shops, public spaces as well as for personal use.
