The recently discovered reference to the iPhone 14 Plus on Apple’s website as “iPhone 14 Max” suggests that the name was intended for the low-cost 6.7-inch device before the company quickly changed its mind.
As a Dutch blog noticed i create, Apple refers to the iPhone 14 Plus as “iPhone 14 Max” twice on the company’s website. First, in a support document that helps users identify their iPhone, the five-color display of the iPhone 14 Plus models is called “iPhone-14-Max-colors.”
Second, on a page containing compliance and regulatory information for the company’s products, Apple lists “iPhone 14 Max” directly with the “iPhone 14 Plus” model number, along with “iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.”
The iPhone 14 rumor mill widely referred to the larger budget model in the series as the iPhone 14 Max. Just a week before Apple’s iPhone launch, a leak suggested that it would instead be called the iPhone 14 Plus, reusing the “Plus” name for the first time since the iPhone 8.
The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus share the same specs and cameras, with the second model having a larger screen and battery. Apple may have thought the Plus name was more appropriate for a device that offered the same features as the smaller version but in a larger form factor. The iPhone 14 Plus was available for pre-order earlier this month and will begin shipping to customers on Friday, October 7. Source
