The adapter ships with the first-generation Apple Pencil, but customers who already own an Apple Pencil must purchase the adapter separately for $9. While the new iPad is scheduled to launch on October 26, the adapter faces a 3-4 week delivery delay at Apple’s US online store for orders placed today.
The Apple Pencil connects to one end of the adapter and the USB-C charging cable to the other end of the adapter and iPad. Such a setup looks pretty funny and caused the adapter to become a meme on social networks after the announcement of the new iPad.
