The new 10th-gen iPad features a USB-C port instead of Lightning, but the device remains compatible only with the first-generation Apple Pencil, meaning an adapter is now required to connect and charge the Apple Pencil. iPad.

The adapter ships with the first-generation Apple Pencil, but customers who already own an Apple Pencil must purchase the adapter separately for $9. While the new iPad is scheduled to launch on October 26, the adapter faces a 3-4 week delivery delay at Apple’s US online store for orders placed today.

The Apple Pencil connects to one end of the adapter and the USB-C charging cable to the other end of the adapter and iPad. Such a setup looks pretty funny and caused the adapter to become a meme on social networks after the announcement of the new iPad.

Despite the updated design with straight edges, as with other models iPadThe 10th-gen iPad isn’t compatible with the second-gen Apple Pencil, presumably because the device has a new horizontal FaceTime camera that takes up space where the magnetic charging port would normally be.
