The experience of creating toys paid off
The founder of Icoma once worked for the company Takara Tomy, which produces transformer toys in Japan. The experience gained allowed the engineer to create a compact electric scooter that can be folded into miniature sizes.
Features of Tatamel electric scooter
Another distinguishing feature of the vehicle is that it is an electric scooter called the Last Mile. That is, this transport is designed for short-distance trips. Such tools have one common feature – compactness. They fit easily in the trunk of a car and can be used to get from the parking lot to the office or to the store.
But Tatamel claims to have a slightly higher status. The fact is that it is also a kind of wheeled power bank, because it can charge other devices from its main battery, which can be very convenient in an emergency.
Interesting and practical design
The electric scooter has replaceable side panels so you can assemble it to your liking. The panels can be wood, metal or even solar energy.
According to the developers, a somewhat simplified design at first glance is specially designed so that almost any rectangular panels can be attached to the scooter. For example, Icoma used LCD screen as one of the options at the fair. In addition, according to the available data, the panels can be upgraded to be used as a desktop.

Features of Tatamel
- the engine is equivalent to a diesel engine for approximately 50 “cube” scooters,
- the maximum speed will be 40 km/h,
- The model is designed for users up to 100 kg.
Price and availability
Tatamel will go on sale in Japan this spring. And if the characteristics and capabilities of the scooter are pleasantly surprising, then the price never leaves the best emotions – the scooter-transformer will cost 4000 dollars. According to the developers, the company also plans to organize foreign sales, although the time to start the global expansion is still unknown.
Last mile transportation still low in popularity
Of course, it is too early to talk about the popularity of Tatamel. Even taking into account its features and functionality, its price is, to say the least, a bit unattractive.
Additionally, “last mile” transportation has yet to gain mass distribution, despite efforts to go mainstream. For example, Boosted sought to gain popularity among Internet influencers by promoting electric skateboards before closing in 2020.
Other exotic projects were not recognized. However, the e-bike industry and related solutions could become much more promising and sustainable in this respect – the relevant market could reach $52 billion by 2030, according to estimates from Spherical Insights.
