A good car photo allows its owners to create more interaction among their followers and friends on different platforms. That’s why he Japanese professional photographer, Hirohiko Mochizuki, shares some tips that can be used to capture the best angle of each vehicle.
Mochizuki noted that it is not necessary to have a professional camera to achieve these images, as smartphones have enough features to produce good results. “(…) They allowed anyone, anywhere to take great photos (…) with a little creativity, you can improve your photos.”
Here are the top tips from a photographer with over 30 years of experience working with Nissan:
A fundamental aspect of car photography is choosing what position they will have on location. An open area without many elements around offers less attention to appreciate the curves of the car and its design.
In the case of sports cars, you will need to place the camera at the height of the lights to get the best angle. In this way, an impressive shot is achieved, which conveys the “personality” of the car.
If you’re using a smartphone to take car photos, it’s ideal to take advantage of the device’s “Pro Mode,” which provides better image quality and more control over photo features.
In addition to the car’s shape, its color is also an ideal feature to emphasize in the photos taken. While light colors are more attention-grabbing, dark colors like black can act as mirrors that reflect what’s going on around you, so it’s recommended to place the camera in a place where it won’t have this effect on the car’s surface.
Photographing new cars can be difficult because their bright colors can be lost if you don’t use proper lighting, which needs to come out of bright light to stand out.
Silver is the easiest color to take good pictures of because you don’t need to use a lot of lighting to capture its hue.
To get good photos, the best time to take them is usually on cloudy days, because the lighting is not so intense and the contrasts between the highlights and the shadows are not so great.
The best photos can be taken early in the morning or at sunset so that intense light does not create spaces that reflect sunlight and quality is lost in the car’s shapes.
Smartphones of different ranges can include up to three types of cameras that can be of great help in taking photos of cars: wide angle, standard and zoom. People will have to decide which one is better depending on the environment they are in and the features they want to highlight from the car.
If the zoom is too much, the quality of the image can be lost, so if it is used, it should be to some extent and for a specific reason. On the other hand, a wide angle can be used to get the most information about the environment, although it can also create distortion in shapes, although this is usually not very pronounced.
