Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed that Apple plans to replace the hard-pressed physical volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro smartphone with a new solution. He claims that Apple will use solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro, with Cirrus Logic making the most of it and becoming the sole supplier of Taptic Engine vibration motors for the new touch buttons.
The shape and position of the new buttons will not change, but the Taptic Engine will be used to simulate the feedback. While this technology was first used on the iPhone 7, some users used it for a long time and did not realize that the button was not physically pressed. The analyst reports that “solid buttons” can provide very realistic feedback and will make the user feel like they’re pressing a physical key.
Last year, Ming-Chi Kuo first announced that Apple would drop the physical buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro. Then he suggested that the new smartphone will have up to three Taptic Engines, and now the analyst has confirmed this information.
