How do you take a screenshot of the Touch Bar on your MacBook Pro?

Introduced on Apple laptops in 2016, the Touch Bar touch panel remained a very underrated option. After 5 years, while many loved the Touch Bar, the company abandoned it on top models – providing far more customization options than standard function keys. Currently, such a panel is only available on 13-inch MacBook Pros with M1 and M2 chips.

If you want to share an image of your Touch Bar with someone or keep the view of its settings to yourself for the future, you can do so with a simple combination of keyboard keys.

But do not forget that such a screenshot will look like a wide strip, since the resolution of the touch panel is 2170×60 pixels.

What is the Touch Bar and what does it do?

The Touch Bar is an OLED touch panel that replaces a set of function keys. It shows different options depending on which app is active on your screen. Here are some ways to use it:

  • Customize controls for specific apps. Many applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Microsoft Office have added support for the Touch Bar. For each application, you can customize the controls that appear on the touchpad to suit your workflow. For example, you can use the touchpad to move through the video timeline in Final Cut Pro, and the touchpad to format text in Microsoft Word.
  • System settings management. The touchpad also provides quick access to system settings such as brightness, volume, and Siri. You can use the touchpad to adjust these settings without exiting the current application.
  • Quick access to emoji. The touch panel has a button for quick access to emoticons.

  • You can do use the built-in Touch I sensorTo unlock your Mac, make purchases with Apple Pay, or switch user accounts D.

  • Tab preview. If you have multiple tabs open in Safari, you can use the Touch Bar to preview and quickly switch between them. You can also use it to scroll back and forth through your browsing history.
