Last month, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Equipped with an armored aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back, it is the brand’s most durable smartphone. An extensive durability test by JerryRigEverything confirmed that the build of the smartphone is healthy. Now another YouTuber PhoneBuff has compared the Galaxy S23 Ultra to the iPhone 14 Pro Max in a drop test. For those who don’t know, the latter has ceramic protective glass and a stainless steel frame.

PhoneBuff’s testing consists of four rounds of drop testing. In the first round, both the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro Max fell on their backs. It completely shattered the rear glass of the rear panel and a dent was also visible on the rear camera lens. By the way, small cracks appeared on both corners of the S23 Ultra. In the second round of drop tests, the iPhone 14 Pro Max did better, as the stainless steel frame suffered minor scratches. By comparison, the aluminum frame of the S23 Ultra suffered more. In the third round, both phones fell on the concrete floor in front. Screens were broken on both devices, but we were able to see more on the S23 Ultra. Face ID on iPhone and ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on Ultra worked perfectly.

In the fourth and final bonus test, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max were dropped facedown on a metal surface and higher than in previous rounds. The iPhone 14 Pro Max was severely damaged due to missing pieces of protective glass. Additionally, both the front and rear cameras showed some flashes. After judging all four rounds, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra scored 38 points, two points more than the iPhone 14 Pro, which narrowly won the test.
