Developer porting old Poco F1 to Harmony OS

A true techie remembers the Poco F1. With a Snapdragon 845 chip and a solid display for $300 in 2018, the phone was a steal and probably gave the brand a launchpad. The Poco F1 was launched with Android 8.1 based on MIUI 9.6 and later updated to MIUI 12 (Android 10). Although the smartphone has come to its end, the developer has breathed new life into it by porting it to Huawei Harmony OS.

Poco F1, but without MIUI

A Chinese developer has successfully run the Xiaomi Poco F1 mobile with HarmonyOS. Not exactly HarmonyOS, but a ported version called OpenHarmony 3.2, which was recently released by the OpenAtom Foundation.

A video posted on Chinese social media offers a detailed look at the performance of OpenHarmony 3.2 ported to the Xiaomi Poco F1 smartphone. The video shows various features and functions of the operating system such as homepage, Wi-Fi connection, F-OH app market, device information, web browser, virtual keyboard app, clock app, Tetri emulator and play with 2048 numbers. While OpenHarmony 3.2 on Poco F1 is a ported version, it seems to run pretty smoothly with no major crashes or lags.

While this is an interesting feat, we do not recommend installing the software on your everyday drivers unless you are willing to risk it. As with any ported ROM, there is a possibility of encountering issues and bugs that can cause some apps to malfunction. You may also face some security and privacy risks. If you still want to try it, you can go to the official OpenHarmony website.
