Galaxy S20 FE 4G and Galaxy A73 receive security updates

It’s only been 10 days in May and Samsung has already released security patches for a significant number of its devices. The company recently released updates for the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy A23 and Galaxy A52. Now it’s the old Galaxy S20 FE’s turn to get the May 2023 security patch. The update is currently rolling out to the 4G Snapdragon version of the phone. Also, Galaxy A73 is getting the latest security update.

According to Sammobile, the May 2023 security patch applies to the Galaxy A73 with firmware version A736BXXS3CWE1. Currently, the update is rolling out to units in Brazil only, but we can expect it to roll out to other regions soon. The release reports that the update comes as a 227.29MB download, implying that it doesn’t include any new features beyond some minor bug fixes.

Similarly, the Galaxy S20 FE is getting the latest May security patch with firmware version G780GXXU4EWD2. The update is currently available in Russia and is expected to roll out in other countries in the next few weeks. As a reminder, this phone was released in 2020 and will not receive major updates as per Samsung’s update policy at that time, but will continue to receive security patches for another two years.

Users of the above devices should receive an OTA update notification. If not, they can manually install the update by going to Settings » Software update and press Download and install. Security patches don’t usually affect your data, but it’s always a good idea to have backups.
