A Spicy launched its latest high-end smartphones exclusively for the country in the Japanese market, Akvos R8 And Akvos R8 Pro. The latter is an evolution of last year’s Aquos R7, in which the chipset Snapdragon 8 Generation 2 from Qualcomm.

The Aquos R8 Pro features a 6.6-inch Pro IGZO OLED display with a resolution of 1260 x 2730 pixels and a refresh rate of 240Hz. The screen supports 10-bit color, Dolby Vision and a maximum brightness of 2000 nits. On the back, the Aquos R8 Pro has a 47-megapixel main camera with a 1-inch sensor co-developed with Leica with f/1.9 aperture and 19mm focal length. It is accompanied by a 1.9 MP depth sensor, but there is no ultra wide-angle or telephoto lens.

The Aquos R8 has a 6.39-inch waterdrop notch display and the same core specs as the R8 Pro, albeit with a peak brightness of 1300 nits. It still features a 50.3MP 1/1.55-inch main sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide sensor.

In addition, the camera rings on both phones also act as passive heatsinks, drawing heat away from the internal circuitry of the devices.

Both phones are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The Aquos R8 Pro is equipped with a 5000mAh battery while the R8 has a 4570mAh battery.

The Aquos R8 and R8 Pro models are water and dust resistant, IP68 certified, with microSD card slots and headphone jacks. Both devices run Android 13 with the promise of three operating system updates and up to five years of security updates, depending on the carrier.

The Aquos R8 comes in blue and cream, while the Aquos R8 Pro comes in black. Both models will go on sale in Japan from July 15th.
