Nowadays, we can find smart televisions very cheaply. This is because manufacturers often reduce a large number of factors in order to offer relatively complete Smart TVs at an affordable price. Between the cutting directions processor and RAMIt is mainly responsible for the image processing and fluidity of the operating system respectively.

Therefore, most entry-level Android TVs sometimes (though not always) struggle to offer us a smooth and efficient experience. In my case, I have been complaining about the slowness of the system on my Xiaomi TV P1 for several years, but over time I know how to make the most of it with a series of tricks.

In this article we will show you a number of recommendations that you can implement. Make sure your TV with Android TV performs as well as possible and make the operating system run smoother and faster.

Kill background processes

One of the things that will prevent your TV’s RAM from filling up is to eliminate background processes. Android TV does not have a panel where we see all active processes in the background, as if it were on mobile phones or computers. Because the system manages the processes without our intervention. Again, yes we can do something about this.

Android

Although we cannot see all open processes, The system allows us to force stop everything that is open. Although we can do this manually, we recommend installing an app such as ‘Background Apps and Process List’; because this will allow you to see whatever is open on your TV and quickly turn it off.

This will help your TV’s RAM. don’t be on the edge and have the space to work properly without getting stuck in the system.

Limit the number of transactions left open

Every time we open an application or process on our television, it takes up some of our RAM and thanks to this we can interact with the process without difficulty. Sometimes, The abundance of open processes worsens the performance of our television. Although the application we mentioned earlier will greatly help you free up the RAM on your television, there is another very useful option that you need to enable.

processual

In Android TV developer options, there is an option to limit the number of processes the system can keep open at the same time. If you don’t know how to enable developer options, we leave you a guide, the procedure is very simple.

Once you enable developer options you should go to your television settings and Device Preferences > Developer Options and look for ‘Limit background processes‘. Here you can choose the number of background processes the system can keep open. We recommend leaving it at ‘4 processes maximum’ so the system has margin and forces processes to stop in case of memory overflow.

Reduce the duration of on-screen animations

The trick we will show you below does not affect the performance of the device in any way, but it can give us the feeling that everything is going faster, since we will limit the time when system animations appear. In this way, when we open an application or navigate the system interface, animations will be much fasterand therefore we can access the content faster.

Animations

To access this change you can also we will need to enable developer options. Once you activate them you should look for three options:

  • Window animation scale
  • Transition animation scale
  • Animation time scale

Our goal here is to reduce the duration of all system animations. By default it is at ‘1x Animation Scale’, so We recommend reducing the duration to 0.5x on all scales. Once you do this, you will notice that everything will go a little faster when navigating menus or opening and closing applications.

Clear cache and free up storage space

Properly managing our television’s internal storage will also help us have less impact on its performance. Therefore, by clearing the cache regularly and freeing up space, It will help us improve the performance of our TV.

cache

To clear the cache of each application, we must enter the settings section and click on ‘Applications‘. Here we must select the application we want to optimize and click on ‘delete data‘ And ‘clear cache‘. This clears the temporary data and storage space taken up by the app without deleting it. Of course, if it is an application that depends on our access credentials, we will have to log in again if necessary.

In addition to clearing the cache for each app, you can also: uninstall apps you no longer use or they are not necessary for you. Remember, the fewer apps you have on your TV, the more storage you’ll have.
